We are delighted to introduce an awards system to the Family Medicine Residency Program. This is part of positive reinforcement to give the trainees encouragement and keep them motivated.

Award ceremonies are done by residency programs internationally to entice residents into doing their best, as well as fuel the sense of competition. Exceptional residents should be recognized to keep them enthusiastic and to place them as role models for other residents. The awards will be given annually in January and the nominations will be taken in November/December for the previous academic year. Below more information about the nominations and criteria selection.

Scholarly

All year residents (R1-R5)

Has up to date knowledge and Practices evidence based medicine

Fulfills any of the following:

A. Attends conferences/ lectures to advance education
B. Participates in clinic accreditation process by taking part in improvement projects (i.e. introducing appointment clinic/ triage system/ rapid clinic)
C. Participates in any research projects
D. Innovative and introduces new ideas to enhance education and clinic work process (i.e. new clinic/ organizes lectures/ courses)

Leadership​

Senior family medicine residents (R4-R5) at the time of nomination

Demonstrates leadership skills with regards to time management, problem solving abilities and diffusing conflicts between colleagues

Takes initiative and participates in clinic activities

Demonstrates advocacy/ support and representation on behalf of peers and patients

Participates in administrative tasks such as work schedule

Teacher

Senior family medicine residents (R4, R5)

Demonstrates interest in teaching

Takes initiative in providing teaching opportunities for peers

Enthusiastic about advancing the education of patients as well as colleagues

Participates in teaching activities whether in the clinic or outside (conference/tutorial sessions/ community teaching lectures)
